Autism Evaluations

Autism Evaluations for Children

CARES provides comprehensive Autism evaluations to children age 3 and above.

Evaluations can be tailored to each child's needs, but typically include an assessment of intellectual functioning; adaptive functioning; language/communication; reciprocal social interactions; and restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped behaviors and interests.

Each evaluation begins with an interview of the parent(s) or legal guardian who can provide detailed information regarding the child's history and current functioning. The interview also includes specific and detailed questions regarding early development and the presence of ASD symptoms. This typically takes an hour and a half. Next, the child undergoes cognitive testing, which typically takes 1-2 hours. The evaluation can be completed in one session or in multiple sessions, depending on the child's stamina and parent preferences.

After the evaluation has been completed, a report is prepared within 2 weeks. The parents receive a 1 hour session reviewing the details of the report.
